Sooo, I was headed from the airport after a quick business meeting in Alaska and I get a call from Discount Tire saying that my wheels are in and I can get them installed this afternoon. Excited, I headed over to Discount and immediately get them installed. I get to the counter and the guys asks me if I have an appointment and I say, no and he says the soonest he can install them is Tuesday of NEXT WEEK. What the fuck? I was a deer in the headlights. I asked when they started taking appointments since I have been going there for years and just walked in for service and I am told it is a ‘recent change’ and that they try to deter walk-ins? Deter walk-ins? They are a damn tire store. The fella then tells me to come in tomorrow morning at 10:00am and they can maybe get them installed in 3 Hours. Needless to say, I am going to drop the Tundra off when they open and see what happens. I am at their mercy as they matched AutoAnything and gave me a rebate on the wheels for a price that could not be beat.

Anyone else have a shit show of an experience like this at Discount Tire?

If they stated that you can "get them installed this afternoon" I would speak to whoever called you and make sure they explain.

That's crazy. Probably should have talked to a manager. I know the discount down here in Texas is crazy busy all the time. But I was able to get my tires and wheels mounted in about 1.5 hrs.

The DM came down and said "you know what? Pick a pair of wheels. It's on the house."
Unfortunately, I chose these (hey, anything was better than stock!)

This is truly the first negative experience I've ever heard about Discount Tire. Been using them for over twenty years, and nothing but stellar service. Possibly they are super busy today and tomorrow, closed Sunday and Monday, which is why it won't be until Tuesday? Friday of Labor Day weekend is probably busy as hell for them.

I've never had issues with Discount in the past. Always got my tires mounted asap. Maybe things have changed. Big O Tires is pretty much appt. Colorado Tire will called my Coopers and picked them after a hour. Drove down and waited a couple hours for mounting. Not bad for a walk in on a Saturday. Neither Discount or Big O could get me the Coopers without waiting 3 days and Colorado Tire beat both their prices.

Discount has always treated me right. They have earned my business. I have never heard of an appointment. Maybe he just had a bad day.

I'm going to have to be a sheep and say I've never had a baaaaaaaaaddddd experience with DT either.

Willing to bet the GM went with this policy. If I was told that, a refund for the mounting/balancing and a different store would have been used.

I've used discount tire for the past few years. I've always had an issue when walking in with a problem like my tire losing air. I went in last winter and my drivers side tire kept losing air I went into to get it looked at and they told me to come back next week. I still buy tires from them. But when they're busy they're busy. Worst time to go in is between fall and winter in the Midwest. Always have to make appointments at that time. But I used to just walk in back in the day.
I'm surprised they didn't set an appointment up for you. When you bought the tires from them.

I've used DT and NTB....I honestly like NTB better in most cases just because I'm not treated like in an idiot and because they always squeeze me in in a pretty timely matter and if they can't they work around my schedule the following day to get what i need done, done. DT has held my vehicle for 3 days before....let me tell you....being a single mom with kids that have school and sports....THAT DOESNT WORK.
