Those look great. May borrow this idea but see if the powder coater can match the TRD skid plate

    None. Just bought.
Got my Millercat Cat Shield installed at Liberty Toyota today. It’s one of my early Christmas gifts from my wife. Now I have some peace of mind. Just wish I had a spare set of keys for the shield.38CBEE60-7CCB-47E9-A85B-FD2305417BEC.jpgB263EB87-6C54-4AB7-9BB7-8D0D662DF8E5.jpgF379BB2C-C544-477C-914C-9808B0FAB5E2.jpg

The Cat shield is the first or second thing going on my truck tomorrow when I get it home from the dealer.

Ordered a cat from Talon for my hybrid. Fit great! The instructions aren’t the most helpful, but easy to figure it out. A YouTube install video would have been clutch! Also, not a lot of room under the truck with my fat ass :burp:

Good to hear, I just ordered one for mine. Will probably order the rest of the set to replace the factory plastic skid, might as well go full matching armor.

Do you have the TRD skid plate (silver) or the black carpet skid plate?

Just got my cat plate and wow it's some serious beef. I couldn't imagine trying to hack through this with a grinder or a sawzaw. The noise would be deafening, definitely wouldn't be easy to do, especially with cordless tools.

Bilstein 5100's, Morimoto gen 2 XB headlights and fog lights, TRD sway bar and skid plates. Nothing else needed!
Cat theft is a crime of opportunity, not a planned out heist like a bank robbery from the movie Heat. Dopers see an opportunity, and realize they can get away with it in just a few seconds, so they bite. If they have to break out a ratchet and risk getting caught, they will pass and go on to the next car that has no protection. Although the covers themselves are able to be removed, and technically could be removed by some doper looking for a cat, the reality is that will never happen. The small price of the cat plate is worth it for sure! In my mind a must have given the exponential rise in cat thefts....

I went with taco time cat shield because it was the cheapest, it’s just a deterrent to spend so much money on one or the other for the same level of protection. It’s tough to put on alone.

Had the Talon cat shields installed for about 4 months and the bolt heads look to be rusted. Should I be worried?

Looks like you have the black oxide we had early on. They can surface rust pretty quickly, but shouldn't rust away or anything like that.

We upgraded to a zinc coated bolt that works much better now as far as rust protection protection. Shoot us a email on the website and we can get you a set.

I would change them to stainless but that’s just my preference. The bolts that you have might be Grade 5 or 8 and were chosen for their strength where stainless steel is not as strong as those. Perhaps Talon can advise if switching to stainless steel will work? They might be able to suggest a corrosion resistant product if not stainless steel.

If you leave them they might be worse above the plate where salt and water can sit only speeding up the rust. This can lead to all sorts of problems down the road!

In the last pic, is the larger washer moving around a bit?

Edges feel pretty good. Not buttery smooth, but than again this is going under the truck so it's not a place that will be touched often. Definitely not sharp.

While I agree with you…for a while up here it seems like it was planned as they were targeting spec locations (park and rides, etc) as well as bringing along armed lookouts and getaway drivers other than the “cut man” at their driveway targets

However a good plate is still better than non at all in my opinion

@bigjuice I agree- Im not saying its impossible, and what you're describing is in fact a "thing" for some dopers to do, but it is very rare. Again, not impossible for someone to take a set of wrenches to it, but if they have their pick of a parking lot of 50 cars, why would they risk taking the time to turn those wrenches when they can literally move one spot over and take the cat that is unprotected... And yes, a good plate is absolutely better than nothing!

Hey all, just purchased a 2021 tundra a few weeks ago. It is an incredible truck. I wanted to get some CatShields and have been welcomed by many choices (lol). Valhalla and Talon’s seem to be well reviewed. A couple of questions I had was: Steel or Aluminum? Thickness preference? Any changes in drive quality post install?

If anyone has any other information that would help, would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

    Lots.
    Welcome from SW Florida!
    1. Your choice. I went with Valhalla. Very satisfied.
    2. I chose aluminum. Reasons; less weight and I drive on the beach a lot (corrosion resistance).
    3. With aluminum I went with 1/4". Beefy and doubles as skid protection.
    4. No adverse effect to ride quality noted. No extra exhaust noise in cabin, rattles or excess heat experienced.

Cat theft used to be mainly dopers and yeah they still do it but the big majority of people doing it now are hood guys at least here in Cali and NY. They go out in groups of 3-4 people and sometimes will have more than 1 car. 1 guy driving, 1 guy working the jack, 1 guy looking out who’s strapped in case anyone steps to them and the guy actually cutting. If they are a big operation they have will have a car up the block as a look out as well. The cat thieves now a days are very sophisticated and it only takes them 45-90 secs from start to finish.

No offense to you because I know you didn’t make it but that’s gotta be the worst design I’ve seen because those slots give them a perfect place to put a saws all blade through and still cut the cat out. With the blades they use it will cut through that aluminum like butter and only add a little bit of time to the job…

Every other design has vents or areas you can fit a blade into and cut the plate off. Point is, most tweekers will not waste the time or noise needed to cut the plate off and then actually cut out the cats. There isn’t a design I’ve seen that can’t be cut off. It’s a deterrent not a guarantee. To the thief it is all about time.

You're right ... only thing that is different that taco..... uses 3/16 thick aluminum vs 1/4" that many use.
