Long time lurker on this forum.

Currently have a '21 Tundra and I am hoping to get into a 3rd gen Tundra soon.

    I have had two Tacoma's and a 4Runner, so I'm a bit of a Toyota nut.

Welcome and greetings from Minnesota. Think long and hard before you get rid of your 21. If you are dead set on a gen 3, make sure you wait till all of the new model bugs are sorted out.

Howdy folks and Tundra lovers! New member here. Proud owner of a 2001 white Tundra purchased last summer (2021) from the original owner. It is immaculate and I really feel fortunate to find it.
I used to sell Toyotas once upon a time, when my 21 year old Tundra was new. I wanted one then but took 20 years to get the exact one I was looking for.

Definitely. I wanted to wait at least a year for Toyota to get some of the redesign bugs worked out. Still love my '21 and all the space of the crewmax!

*If I can offer you any advice, wait just a minute on that 3rd gen, I purchased a platinum red and black 3rd gen in May, I traded it in in September. It has too many quirks and issues for my life style. In and out of the garage every other week is for the birds. And it was never the same after they replaced the transmission.. it was a great truck I absolutely loved it and I will get another in a few years for sure but man it has some serious kinks to work out

Would you be willing to expand on your experiences? I'm waiting for an allocation on a non hybrid Platinum. Unfortunately, everything in my area to even look at is already sold or is a SR or SR5 trim.

    Absolutely ,
I purchased a 22 non hybrid platinum crew max 5.5 ft bed. I had the tri fold bed cover , TRD skid plate ,running bars and the fold down tailgate step. Out the door with taxes was about 74k$. All the bells and whistles interior. At about 800 miles the transmission developed a strong metallic rattle coming directly from the pan area. I ran it for another 500 miles before brought it in. No performance issues at this time just a terrible noise at an idle. The dealer had this swapped out in 2 days which was amazing. Unfortunately it was a junk transmission it never shifted the same again. If I had known the nightmare I was creating I would have delta with the noise . True story. It started almost double shifting . Hard shifting, and with a 10 speed transmission it felt like I was towing a 100 gallon trailer with water half full and it just sloshed back and forth all day. I managed to find a way to overlooked this as long as I could after 3 return visits for drive ability. At 2400 miles the rear differential started humming. At this time they replaced the rear end. 5 recalls , parts on back order , toyota corporate and the dealer offers to buy back this lemon but they had no replacement vehicles for months and with the mileage accumulated they wanted me to pay almost 8k$ to get out of it whenever 1 came available. This is unacceptable to me as a contractor. Toyota was not ready to release this truck yet . Not to mention the economy. In a few years this truck will be a force to reckon with but right now unless you have time to live at your local dealership I'd wait just a minute

    Bendeizl,

I appreciate your feedback on your experience.
I hope Toyota gets most of these issues figured out quickly and its a bummer that you ended up with such a lemon with the redesign. Seems to be real hit and miss and a love or hate on these 22's.
