Having issues with my rear end repair 2022 limited 4x4

My truck was rear ended back in March.

Parts delays occurred so I finally got the truck into the shop in July.

The Toyota certified center claims that the frame specs have not been released for 4x4 models. They need these to ensure that everything is in spec and that there is no frame damage.

My truck is currently sitting at the repair center and I am not able to pick it up.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I have reached out to my claims adjuster, Toyota dealership, and now Toyota corporate and so far no one has given me an answer.

Just kidding. Unfortunately part of the early adoption cycle. Sorry to hear about getting rear ended in your brand new ride. Hope they get it sorted soon.

I wander what specs they need for frame. On TiS there is a whole Collision Repair manual that has point-to-point distance for the 2022.

I'm sure a Toyota "certified" repair shop should have access to TiS.

 

the term they have been using is “ measure for frame damage” the 4x2 specs are available, but the 4x4 specs are not.

This is a “toyota certified collision center” as listed on Toyotas website, they are the only one in my area of Nevada and owned by the same national dealer group (Autonation).

I’m having a hard time believing this as well but I found out about this issue from a someone who had to have their truck totaled for the same reason.

with interest rates the way they are I don’t want to have to buy a new truck.

The insurance ended up totaling his truck because Toyota hadn't released the specs for the frame so they couldn't properly check for frame damage. Sounds like a similar situation.

Scroll back through the photos before this one and you'll see his entire story. The initial pictures of the rear end damage look relatively minor. I think the biggest issue was the bed box kissed the cab. Shame.

 

this is exactly who I have been in contact with.
He even spoke with Mike seers and had no success. Mike only advised the shop what underlying issues to look for but could not or would not provide the frame specs.

 

If it's gone all the way to Mike Seers...then I think you're out of options. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some insurance companies (or maybe it's a law in some states) allow for you to hire an independent claims adjuster to validate the damage amount. Maybe you can get an independent audit to total out the vehicle so you can move on? There are people who work in the auto insurance industry on this forum. Maybe one of them will chime in with options. I think that's your only viable route.

 

Interesting, I didn't know there was different frame specs for 4x4 or 4x2. I only see frame specs for CrewMax or double cab. The more you know.

Only thing I can find in TiS. I'm no body shop tech, so maybe they need something else.

 

If they total the truck out you’re going to get market value for it. That truck is going to have a high salvage value too and will be back out on the street I’m no time. It’ll be sold and the insurance will make their money back

 

I think I figured out the issue.

This Toyota collision center uses Car-o-Liner for frame measurements.

i reached out to car o liner directly and they have not had a tundra in for measuring so their program does not have the specs on their database.

Which means every body shop that uses this frame measuring equipment will not have frame specs for the 2022 tundra until they physically scan a new tundra.

According to the body shop and collision center. This process takes months and has not been started.

 

Ahh. Make sense. Similar situation with wheel alignment machines not updated with 2022 yet.

 

now the fun part, if they don’t release my truck until they get these measurements and it takes “months” I’ll find myself in an interesting situation as I am moving out of state.

I am waiting for the insurance to let me know what their plan is.

Already had a rental for about 6-7 weeks total.

 

I wouldn't worry too about that. I was t-boned in Arizona during a big road trip about 9 years ago. A lady blew through a stoplight and hit me. Thankfully, an off duty Arizona trooper was right behind her and say the whole thing.

We were on our way back to Oklahoma at the time. My truck had to sit in Arizona while it got fixed because it was deemed "unsafe to drive." Their insurance paid for our rental to get home and paid to have the truck shipped back to us in Oklahoma once the repairs were complete.
