Really? I had to buy longer ones. I went 40mm in length. The existing OEM bolts only caught like 2 or 3 threads when I tried them with the Talon Cat Shield + TRD Skid Plate.

    Interesting.

You just have to bend it down. I suppose you could cut it off with a saw, but 3 good whacks with a hammer will do the trick just fine.

I have a 2020 Pro. It came stock with the TRD skid and the bolts were long enough. The specs on the 2022s are probably different. Sorry for the confusion.

My feedback on the Talon Cat Plate. Just installed it on my 2022 Tundra, I have the TRD skid plate as well.

    - The instructions on the Talon website are not 100% correct and do not cover install with the TRD skid in place. It would be nice if they did......
    - Instructions mention "lock washers", I didn't receive any with my kit, though I have to assume poly/lock nuts were an addition or in lieu of piece of hardware for the lock washers
    - The 3rd thicker bolt is really not necessary at the front of the plate for centering or otherwise if you have the TRD plate. If anything it just confuses the installer, just use the original 12mm bolts for the TRD plate as "holders" while you tighten the cat plate rear bolts onto the frame. After, just remove the 12mm bolts and the 2 plates should align perfectly....otherwise you will NEVER get the cat and TRD plates to align correctly at the front...or you need a car lift (I was doing shade tree mechanic stuff)
    - The allen head bolts that they provide are different head sizes...it would be really convenient if they were both the same size (maybe that is a security thing or an overall bolt strength thing), in the end it is just another tool you have to have under the truck
    - Last thing about the bolts....I wish the washers that came with the bolts were a little more stout in thickness....they deform easily and that doesn't give me a lot of confidence in long term reliability
    - Otherwise I feel the plate is really well made and I am confident that it will last as long as the TRD plate

I just got my Talon cat plate in today. I ordered on Sunday and it showed up today. Install took about 20 mins. I only needed a small cardboard box to set the plate on top for the install. I originally ordered from Tyler and wanted to support him, but I couldn't wait with a trip coming up. On the plus side, the plate is great and it's a veteran owned business.

Not yet but at some point I’m going to make a video going over it all. One thing I’m doing that may be tough to replicate is using a goal zero to power the arduino and sensors. It’s pulling about 100 ma so I think it would be ok run off the battery but would probably want a voltage shutoff to keep it from draining.

    It’s a start-
I wonder if will get $ back for the cat covers we’ve already installed?, doubt it but rather have some deterrent than none!

NADA Pushes for Catalytic Converter Theft Law

The National Automobile Dealers Association has had enough of the ongoing scourge of catalytic converter thefts that have cost “millions of dollars to businesses.” Oh, and they’re peeved for the owners, too. They’re pushing Congress to move forward with legislation that would have converters VIN-stamped, enforce new restrictions on purchases and codify new penalties for theft. From Automotive News:

In a letter sent Monday to Democratic and Republican leadership on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the groups asked the committee to hold a hearing on legislation known as the Preventing Auto Recycling Theft (PART) Act and to support the measure.

“These thefts are costing millions of dollars to businesses and vehicle owners alike,” the groups wrote in a letter to Reps. Frank Pallone, the committee’s chairman, and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the GOP ranking member. “In addition, replacing a catalytic converter is costly and often difficult due to the part’s skyrocketing demand and supply chain shortages.”

Other groups that signed the letter include the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association, American Car Rental Association, American Truck Dealers, American Trucking Associations, National Insurance Crime Bureau and National RV Dealers Association.

In the U.S., catalytic converters are being stolen at increasingly higher rates because they contain costly precious metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium, and are not easily traceable.

The skid plate and cat plate are investments in protecting the undercarriage of my truck....to me it is a wash.

ORS and Skidrow were making these plates decades before this gold rush. ORS even called it a catalytic converter guard. Had one on my 2006 Tundra and paid $160 shipped.

Criminals don’t care about silly laws. Laws are words on paper and do absolutely nothing to prevent crime. They only make you guilty once you’ve broken them. The law won’t change anything.

Question: Is the underbody the same for the I-force and I-force max? Didn’t know if the hybrid changed anything. Anyone with a max install a cat shield?

Sounds like most are buying from Talon or Valhalla, no one considering RCI?

For me it seems like the Valhalla/Talons came to market earlier…and at the rate at which thefts occur in my area I didn’t want to chance it and wait longer.

Have you considered starting your own thread? I guess you'll need 50 posts to sell but I almost called you this AM with some questions. I was wondering about the weight of the different thickness options and security bolts, etc.

Don't be concerned with the noise on this forum. I'm sure if anyone gets in your thread and starts acting like an idiot the mods will clean it up quick.

    Welcome to Tundras.com

I got the taco tunes plate - liked how much ventilation there was (and access ports), install was easy and fits like a glove. Arrived within 1 week of ordering.

I ordered a plate from Valhalla back in February, weeks before I had the truck. I have been told at least twice via email it was shipping, but still have not received it. Like others, I would love to support him, but cannot wait any longer. Cat theft has been on the rise again where I live, so I will have to order a different plate this weekend and try to get a refund from Valhalla.

There are a lot of folks making these plates. I ordered mine at 3 in the afternoon and they shipped the same day. I don't understand the rah rah for a vendor. Jmo.

I purchased one from taco tunes and later found out it doesn't fit the hybrid version. They have a hybrid version coming out soon though and I will buy it then.

If anyone lives in Houston, I'm selling my brand new taco tunes shield for 350.

I wonder why Toyota doesn't equip vehicles with plates. I am sure they don't look to profit off the thefts of cats. I mean they wouldn't try to take advantage of the situation, would they?

If they are not going to fork out the money for front tow hooks, they sure the hell are going to pay for cat plates.
