    Hey Fellas-

    Happy Sunday!

I have begun my search for new tires for my 2017 Tundra and made the decision to keep the 20" Stock Wheels and have them Powder Coated black.I like to look of the various Nitto tires and really like the Ridge Grappler. Does anyone know if these will fit my truck without any modifications to my truck?

My goals of my new tires are:
    • Less Road Noise
    • Good performance in Pacific NW Weather
    • Less tire and more wheel but still able to have fun in the mud if I ever get the balls to do it
As you can tell, I am new to truck wheel and tire sizing so any feedback would be of great help. If you think another tire is better, I would love to hear about it.

    Thanks in advance!

Depends on the size of the tires...

Lots of guys like 18's cause it allows them to have more tire, less wheel, and wheels are technically cheeper at 18".

If you stick with the 20's you'd probably be okay at 275/55.

Thanks - I like the look of 275/65r20 or 295/60r20

295 55 20 ridge grapplers on the factory 20x9 +50mm offset wheels with the 5100's on the middle setting. Removed the front flap. No rubbing.

How much room do you have between the tire and your upper control arm? I have stock platinum wheels and they're a +60 offset, just wondering if I can run 295's..

    Thanks in advance!

295 might be a little big. But it looks like Ron has 85s sized out.

I have about a pinky width of room:

on the 20x8 +60mm offset, a 285 might be the widest you could go.

I've had 20" rims before but not on my Tundra. I prefer 18" rims because I like more rubber and there is usually more tire size choices with the 18" rims but that is changing too as more mfr's are constantly adding new tire sizes to their line ups. It all comes to what you want, what look, etc. Can't go wrong with Nittos either.

I just put 275 75r18 ridge grapplers on my Tundra and love them. There is a little hum of the tires at 75-80 but they are a lot more aggressive that stock. I put the bilstein 5100 on middle setting on my truck and have not had them rub yet, if they ever will. My friend has them on a duramax and is on his 2nd set. Said they are great all around tires, he did get stuck in his field with a 24ft gooseneck trailer and 12 round bails of hay with 8inches of mud. But I wouldn't blame the tires on that.

I'm seriously thinking about getting some 1.25" spacers until I feel like dropping the money on wheels because I really want to run 295's or 305's .. Thanks for the help!!!

Yeah, with spacers, you will only be able to fit 295's. the minimum wheel width for 305 ridge grapplers is 8.5". That means that you are limited the the following sizes:
    • 295 55 20
    • 295 60 20
    • 295 65 20
The 55 series will definitely fit without a lift, but you may need to trim a little. the 60 series will require a 1.5-2.0" lift and trimming. The 65 series with require a 2.0-3.0" lift and trimming.

    Good luck :)

How close are you to the front plastic liner? I want to go 295/60/20 in the same tire. Running 5100's on top setting currently.

the 295 60's are 1.18" taller than the 295 55's. so you will need an extra 0.6" of clearance from what you see in the pics below. For me, I have about 1/2" inch clearance on the front liner and I would only need a small amount of trimming to fit 295 60's. however, keep in mind that I have +50mm offset wheels. if you have a lower offset wheel (+32 for example), then you will have even less room (and will require more trimming).

front fender liner. about 1/2" of clearance
    [IMG]

mud flap. about 1/2" of clearance

How are the ridge grapplers road manners? I love the look of these tires but I don't want a lot of noise or poor pavement handling as 99% of my driving is on the road (unfortunately).

These tires are awesome and handle very well. They are super quiet on the highway for what kind of tire that they are. Above 70mph, you can hear them, but it is so slight that you don't even notice it. My last tires were Mickey Thompson MTZ's and those tires slapped the pavement as they rolled. They were so fricken loud. I am glad that I have the Ridge Grapplers now.

I like these tires 100 times better than stock in all the aspects I've has them in so far. In rain I was really surprised. They have alot of siping in the thread to help. I can only based these off the BFG KM2 I had on my Tacoma. Which are a great tire on and off the road but are a little expensive. But handling wise and they are really responsive. I have yet to have them on mud or snow.

It'll be worth it!! I've got a set of 35's on my jeep and I just rotated them for the first time. They are still very quiet. They do make just slightly more noise now but really it's nowhere near as bad as your run of the mill M/T.

I ordered a set of 295 70R 18's and new wheels last week from Discount Tire. I had actually picked another tire, but was talking to Mathew at MCM Fabrication and he suggested either Nitto's or Toyo's based on his experiences.

Love my Ridge Grapplers so far. They are a lot quieter then I thought they would be.
