I was originally defaulting to SR5 with minimal to no package to keep cost down.

Now considering SR which actually is pretty well equiped for a base trim.

Any other major compramises other than:

Detuned Engine (I know this isn't a minor thing but I don't have any real towing needs)
    Manual Seats

Does the SR still not have variable intermittent wipers like on the second gen?

I did a side by side on Toyota's website. The SR is quite decent really.

Even with that you get remote locks, power windows, tilt, a/c, full dynamic radar cruise control, push button start.

When I was young that was considered luxury.

They have more payload, but less towing. No one know why the power is lower, no one know is there any difference in drivetrain.
I think they have smaller screen too

Anyone know if the SR rear window rolls down?

According to the information on Toyota’s site, the SR crew max has the roll down rear window.
The double cabs get the sliding horizontal window.

SR Crewmax has power vertical rear window like on previous Sr5 Crewmax and up trucks. It does have intermittent wipers, same 8” screen as the SR5 but only has one bed rail in the front behind the cab.

I have a silver SR Crewmax on order. The bed rails are only roughly 150-175 for the set. Not quite in stock yet. I had a white Crewmax that would have been here Dec 23 but decided to flip to silver. Here are a few pics I took at the distribution center of the bed rails and my truck I was going to get.

one thing I like about the SR is the front A pillars are color matched and not black like on the rest of the trims. One thing I don’t like is the handle bar around the grill is gloss black and rest is flat so will be replacing that with a handlebar that is color matched in silver.

Not sure if this has been discussed in another thread. . . But I would assume the power difference would just be a computer flash , tuning, etc. . I seriously doubt there's any difference in the actual engines

Thanks for sharing! Am I correct in saying that there is no way to get the 32 gal tank in an SR?

Correct. It has the 22 gallon as an option only.

Thanks! I think it's that, and the lack of a factory brake controller that would push me up to the SR5.

Oh one thing to note. The preproduction SR’s had fog lights but the production models do not, they only have LED headlights.

I think you are right but it makes wonder why they even bothered then, seems petty if there's zero manufacturing cost associated with it.

    Very helpful thank you.

I think I would just go with a black truck to hide the handle bar.

How are you guys placing orders? Is that just through a dealer?

The guys around here don't know anything about SRs or when they might get one but are more than happy to take a non refundable deposit.

I remember reading <5% of engines would be the detuned version (SR)

SR interior dash is different too right? Heard it should have a storage space above the glovebox.

After having both tanks, no way I could live without the larger fuel tank.

I personally don't care about heated seats.

Regarding the posts about the detuned SR, perhaps it was necessary in order to meet a fuel economy target and they felt they could egt away with it on the 'work truck' trim level? Even 1mpg matters these days.

Plus heated seats requires going from SR to SR5 plus a package. Sure they're nice but you gotta want really want them for that to be your deal breaker.

Any more info on this? Any photos or videos of this?

The appears to be a storage space on the SR on the toyota website but this is the same for the SR5

The SR interior doesn’t have all the silver trim everywhere and the A pillars are color matched on outside which I love :)

Anyone aware of any new info on was done to "de tune" the SR engine? I have seen speculation on ECU programming only as well as actual changes to cooling system / turbos etc.

Trying to determine how much of a "compromise" the lower power / torque motor would be.

Replace the steelies and that's a nice looking truck. SR might be the way to go, especially in black.

Don't poo-poo the de tuned motor. If you're not maxing out the truck towing all day every day, this could be a good thing for longevity. It's like how Powerstrokes in the F250-450 have more power/torque than commercial F550's. How does that make sense? It's due to longevity being a priority for commercial vehicles over absolute max power. A little less boost/pressure per combustion cycle could go a long way.

SR's and SR5's rule. Less is more.

i think the a pillars are just blacked out with some vinyl stuff. I assume, when I get mine, I can peel it off and go back to paint?
