Well, regarding that, Sweers did his usual song and dance - "J2807 standard", which isn't extreme testing. It's just a baseline standard.

What I keep remembering is Toyota used to brag about their factory tow package with the aux trans cooler for only $600. Strange disconnection from bragging about it for 15 years, then blam, the narrative changed to "not necessary", and a vague statement "Operates within expectations at normal operating temperatures."

You sure you have air in the tires? Just kidding. Those numbers are ridiculous and indicate some kind of resistance or maybe just missing a critical component? IDK just guessing.

Of the many Engineers I've known, only 1 owned a PU truck, an older used abused POS Titan. One had a Audi Q5, one a BMW X1 and the rest had crappy little cars. None were well taken care of and none of them knew anything about auto maintenance.

Dad's cousin is a mechanic. He can put a german car back together from a pile of scrap. He always jokes that he has no idea what the engine of a Toyota looks like. Wouldn't know one if it didn't have an emblem on it.

Thats 45 miles of easy highway driving and then a little ascent to my subdivision. I saw even higher on my way Antelope hunting today in rolling hills, didn’t think it was worth taking another screen shot, most know these trannys run too hot. OEM Tstat came in today.

In my neighborhood, the Toyota Tundra is the most popular model truck. Total Tundra's outnumber all other brands combined. A variety of 1794, Platinum, and Limited's with most being the Crew Max.
Very surprising for the "American" Ford's and Chevy's loving crowd in the Pittsburgh region. Of course most in the region, think that the Tundra is an import.

I may add the cooler however i will say my 21 trd pro runs way cooler that my 19 trd offroad did idk y. Both had no cooler.
Today I towed my 18' pj trailer with 4 atvs loaded(aprox 4k lbs )4 passengers in the truck and cooler and spare in the bed. Tow haul mode in s5 running 70 mph for 125 miles temps never exceeded 230 and ran pretty steady 221. S4 made zero difference but s6(D) temps would climb.

To me this isn't bad tbh but i may get the cooler anyway since i wanna keep the truck a while. We will see.

Interesting. So, what changes did Toyota make from the '19 to '21?
What were the ambient temp and elevation changes on your trip?
That type of trailer offers little wind resistance as compared to box or RV trailers.
Still should have been 20 deg cooler on average.
Go with the cooler if you plan to tow regularly.
All in my opinion of course.

This cant be right. So many post on this thread on how Toyota did their due diligence and just one or tow forum members ever got the trans temp high alarm. Sure Toyota puts out a TSB for 1 or 2 complaints, lmao. Everyone that tows anything above 60 mph is getting it..............

I imagine the repair is raise the alarm to 350F........

Which means they update the software so the light no longer comes on. Meanwhile your tranny is still burning up. Bandaid.

I wonder if some of the trucks already have the updated PCM and what exactly is the change doing? Is it just keeping the light off or is it actually helping to manage the temps a little better

I'm curious if the last manufactured 2021's have this new software update. That is an invitation for disaster if Toyota did was raise the temp before alarm. They are just digging in. Refuse to admit an issue. This reminds me of what they did regarding the Brake Controller. I'll start a different thread for that one.

Can someone provide the entire TSB so that we can read the recommended repair section?

Ambient temps were about 80° and my elevation was about 2,000 ft above sea level. Some hilly freeway driving not flat but not mountain passes.

My 2016 would have been in the 190's under those conditions.

How would the transmission that as no ability to cool itself manage the temps better? Has to be an alarm range adjustment so you won’t know it’s really hot, it’s not like it tells you the actual temperature anywhere.

By changing “shift mapping” so that the torque converter locks more aggressively. It won’t be better than a real cooler, but better than an unlocked converter.

I find it remarkable that for all the people who’ve been troubled by the lack of transmission cooler, only a few here have managed to have a thread blow up over it. Rarefied air!

I think I have a tranny cooler in my 2020 TRD Sport. It came with a trailer brake control package. Hard to see in the front, but ot looks like another rad in front with pipes leading back. The a/c one is lower. 2B725C20-4831-4D1F-86B4-7AFF1F6B97E6.jpg

That’s your ac condenser and lines. No 2020 came with a trans cooler from the factory.
