My passenger side headlight level function stopped working recently so I pulled the back cover off to inspect the electric motor. I definitely wasn't expecting to find a completely rusted motor and circuit board on this thing so my question is... is this a common issue? This motor has never been apart (headlights have been retrofitted but he said he doesn't mess with them) so I have no idea why the rubber seal failed and allowed water inside.

First I have heard of it. Maybe the seal wasn't seated properly from the factory?

I have never heard of this either.

Throw this one into the bin of things that usually never happen, and you are the 1 in a few hundred thousand.

Guess I'll have to do that. That bin just cost me 150.00 dollars. :(

Any info on how to remove the old one and install a new one?

I believe the guys with Spyder headlights usually remove their OEM motors to put in their Spyder's, @Sean266 any experience?

I forget who else has them off the top of my head.

I'm thinking I'll swap the internals from the replacement motor into the existing motor already attached to my headlights. I don't want to tinker with them too much so I think swapping internals and seal would cause the least amount of disturbance.

Check with some of the vendors on here that are parts slingers at dealerships. I have always had great service getting factory Toyota parts.
