I hope to get some input or advice about truck bed rust. I have a gen 2.5 (the current shape). I have rust on the bed in the typical spots. Worse at box mounts ahead of wheel bulge, driver's side The rust has gone right thru the metal. If you Google Tundra truck bed rust, you'll see the typical areas. My truck is barely 5 years old and it's rusted right thru. I have a full service history with local Toyota dealer, where I bought it. I asked for help and they said #toobad #sosad

What do I do? Am I the only one? Or is my early model of the current shape a forboding sentinel of what's to come for other gen 2.5 owners?

    Any input or advice appreciated!

Someone will chime in about this shortly. A known issue that does suck. Can be remedied but won't be a piece of cake. Any pics? Would greatly help!

A 14? Your 14 has rust that bad already? Do they use road salt up there in the winter??

    Thanks for the greetings!

Just an update. Toyota Canada has told me to bugger off. Any info on accessing further recourse would be appreciated.

With that out of the way, I'd like to at least give you a heads-up of the issue.

The bed is mounted to the frame by 2 upside down U-shaped rails that run in a transverse fashion. These are located in front of and behind the rear wheel bulge.

It is apparent that the edges closer to the wheels are unprotected, and have no seam sealer. It is just so that the area is well-suited to trap road salt and moisture. It is hard to reach to irrigate or clean.

My suggestion is target-directed cleaning, and liberal coating with a creeping cosmoline type product.

I'm sure there are many positions on rustproofing. I have started using CRC Heavy duty anti-corrosive, Marine. The cosmoline is dissolved in a dilutant, and this allows for aerosolisation, and it allows it to creep before the dilutant evaporates. This leave a well covered area of waxy, honey-coloured goodness. Cosmoline is what the military uses to keep equipment from rusting.

Anyway, a little update and thanks for the welcome once again!

Central Alberta gets it's fair share of anti-ice treatments on the road in the winter. I live in a remote rural town, but occasionally head to Edmonton. The City of Edmonton used a liquid de-icing product in 2018/2019. It has wreaked havoc on the concrete of the bridges (visible spalling), and lots of extra rust to vehicles.

I'm just disappointed that I'm dealing with rust right thru the metal at 5 years...
