I am planning on getting an AGM battery when mine dies. So far no problems, but I keep a lithium jump starter in my truck just in case

You all cost me $330 in the first 24 hours of joining ordering a X2. I'm dumping the factory battery at 3 years and 35k. The story of being dead on the boat ramp got me to open my wallet. That's my kind of luck.

I was stuck in a parking lot after my son’s football practice on a hot day. Couldn’t even jump the battery from multiple cars. I had to have AAA come out and was able to crank some amps into it. I immediately drove to the nearest Batteries Plus and got the X2. Its been smooth sailing for the past year.

    Hi stumpjumper,

I know what caused you battery to die. It was your boat sucking the live out of it! Time to get a new boat!! Might a well get some new poles and a built in kegerator!!!

I jinxed myself!! This morning battery was dead.. So dead I wasn't even getting lights on the dash. I guess I'll be getting that AGM sooner than I thought.

When they die they won't even jump start. Normally a dead cell. I put mine on 50 amp charge and barely got interior lights.

I was able to jump start the truck with the lithium jump starter that I have and drive to work (20 min drive). But, as soon and I turned the truck off the battery was dead again. Didn't even have enough power for the door lock beep.

As an update I called the dealership and told them my battery took a dump and they replaced it under warranty free of charge. So I guess I have another 2 years before this one dies...

happened to skim this thread before replacing my battery today. I cant believe people in this community are putting $350 batteries in their vehicles
factory battery lasted almost 5 years. replaced it with an off the shelf East Penn locally for about $80.00
I could buy 4 conventional batteries for the price of a "northstar", if each lasts only 3 years that's 12 years of batteries for 1 northstar, with money left over for a case of beer.

The consequence of being stranded could easily cost me more than the $275 difference in price not to mention the hassle and inconvenience associated with being stuck. I can't miss a business appointment because my battery died and won't take a jump start.

I just replaced my 4 yr and 2 month old interstate this past weekend due to leaking on the positive terminal. I got lucky because it started getting weak the day before. After 4 yrs, I received a prorate of $67.00 and I had to pay $98.00 out the door.

It’s a car battery. This isn’t an airplane or a boat. A $350 solution in search of a problem. ;)

Hopefully don't put a hex on myself. My battery is 6 year old OEM. Had it tested last month, AOK. still starts strong.

The countless people these premature battery failures have left stranded may beg to differ that there isn't a problem. Hopefully your luck will keep you believing everyone buying a high quality USA made replacement battery is a sucker just wasting money.
BTW, I also put high quality tires on my truck not the ones made in Mexico that cost 1/3 the price. What do I know? :oldglory:

Yeah, I'm super attentive to the battery status. First sign of weakness it's gone. But had my SIL test it with tester that he said was designed to sell batteries. I've also tested it with a multimeter several times. Living on borrowed time I guess.

My first Tacoma battery lasted 8 years. The replacement (duralast gold I think) was 4 years old when I sold the truck.

Wife's GX has a Panasonic, so I'm not changing it out until 50k miles which would be 3-4 years. I replaced my stock Tundra Battery with an X2 this summer.

Yep, other than door lock motors, which cost $28 and 6 hours, I'm good. Most of the 6 hours was installing sound dampening.

I have a question. A long time ago you could remove the battery cables, start the vehicle and drive on the alternator if the battery was hosed. Keep in mind that I didn't know until 2014, after I got this truck, that the gas pedal wasn't connected to a cable anymore. If your battery is fired and won't take a jump start, can you disconnect the cables and drive on the alternator?

Except in a very narrow set of circumstances on some vehicles more than 60 years old (cough*Ford*cough) you should never take the battery out of the circuit. In older cars you ran the risk of welding the points of the regulator together and on newer vehicles you leave nothing in the system to absorb spikes when you take the battery out. This means your alternator and all processor controlled devices downstream from it, (engine, powertrain, body and entertainment control modules, etc.) are at risk of immediate and catastrophic failure.

Having said that, yes, good old boys have removed the cable for years to see if an alternator was working. Sometimes it was and then wasn't, sometimes they got by with it. AAA is too cheap and computers too expensive to risk it.

My original battery only lasted 8 years and I only ran it dead twice in sub zero weather.
