Who here purchased a used Third Gen tundra with high mileage? Say 75k and up? Everything I’ve read on here tells me these trucks have very few issues other than the Cam Tower leaks.

There’s a used ‘14 SR5 CM at my dealer that’s priced really well and is in good shape. It already has 115k on it, but was a local trade.

I’m thinking about buying it. But it has zero warranty (obviously) and the same dealer has a lifetime powertrain warranty available on vehicles with less than 50k miles. If I buy this one I can start building it and it’d save me $10k of initial purchase price compared to a lower mileage with the warranty.

I drove it and it seemed fine. The driver seat wasn’t even worn down at all. I was actually surprised.

The 07 MGM that I just recently traded in was just shy of 100K. No issues. Damn good time to get a decent trade in value. The 14 Limited that I traded for had 104K. BFD...One owner. It came with full maintenance records from day 1. To me...104K is still low miles. I only put on 8K a year. Good to go for quite some time:thumbsup:

I put about 15-20k a year on my vehicle so the mileage isn’t a huge deal to me. I think it’s more a whether I wanna give up a lifetime powertrain. Regardless, I plan to get an SR5 CM 4x4 and immediately upgrade the lights, steering wheel, and install Katskin seats (I’ve done it before and it’s easy).

My last three trucks were used Yota's. Paid for extended warranty which includes my 14. Probably wasted $ again. Never used the warranties. I did replace a failed power steering pressure sensor myself on my 07. $20 give or take a buck.

That’s what I’m thinking with a used tundra. If it wasn’t abused I just don’t think I’ll get my money out of a low mileage one when I intend to modify it anyway.

Even with 104K on the clock, I was able to swing 24K/2 year door to door premium warranty for $1200 with $100 deductible. Worth it? I don't know. Not much more $ per month. Depends on service records. Totally subjective.

I’m the second owner of my 2008 with the 5.7l. I’m at 297XXX and still truckin. It’s needed a few things here and there, but nothing even close to a payment. Most of the things I have done to it or am planning on are upgrades I would do to any vehicle haha.

How many miles have you put on your truck with the lift?

I have only put about 10k on with lift. So far real good. Although I did replace all the wear items up front with lift.

    IMG_20190726_131424.jpg I bought my 5.7l 08 in 2011 with 90k. I just took it on a 7000 mile road trip fully loaded pulling a 30 footer. During the trip I hit 240k.

This is what I have done other than oil and tires in 150k of driving. Keep in mind I use my truck, it's not a buety queen.

100k all fuids, tranny, diff, etc..

130k pully went out so I did a water pump while I was in there.

    150k front brakes

    200k fluids again

225k tensioner went out and alternator was getting hot so I replaced tensioner, another pully, alternator, and water pump for good measure.

    237k rear brakes,in a Campground!

Last 15k have been a bit expensive. Especially since I will need shocks soon, but try to find a vehicle that will give you 250k of hard working miles for that minor of a maintenance costs. Never seen a GM do that... Or a Ford. Just saying.

    Don't fear that truck!

Edit: I know it's a 2nd gen, but mechanically basically the same as a 3rd...

Bought my 2010 with 93k. Now it has 121k. Work I've done includes:
    1. $400 for a new radiator, when a rock somehow punctured a hole in a hose, at least that's what the mechanic said
    2. $400 for transmission drain & fill and some other minor items, don't remember now what they were
    3. $1,900 on new suspension (see sig) that I installed myself. Upon examining old shocks, they all appeared to be in decent working order, other than a lot of rust
    4. replaced tires at 118k before they needed it
    5. oil changes every 5k
of all these things, the only one that was a true repair was the radiator, which was a freak situation. the other stuff is just maintenance

This is all confirming what I’ve already been thinking. The basic truck is solid and the tech can be selectively upgraded if you want.

Not a Tundra, but my coworker just rolled 401000 miles on his 2000 4Runner. Original motor, trans, rear end, AC still blows cold. Ill try and snap a pic of the odometer.

Wow! Only thing due at 100k besides the oil change and tire rotation should be a coolant exchange and a transmission service. Should be under $600. The diffs and transfer case should be done every 60k unless you off road and or tow then it should be done every 30k. Plugs are due at 120k unless you drive hard on your truck.

    Bought my 2016 SR5 4WD with 79k
Dealer did the cam tower leak repair before I took delivery.
Spent several thousand dollars on upgrades.

There’s now a 2016 with 91k that just got traded today. I used the Toyota Customer app to check it out and it has been serviced here all the way to the transmission flush last November at 75k miles. It’s the color and package I want so I’m going to try driving it this weekend.

Do the diff fluids and transfer case. Have someone check the coolant and trans fluid. If the coolant looks like it hasn't been done then do it. If the trans fluid is dirty then replace it has well. Plugs at 120 but wouldn't hurt to do them at 115. I'd also do a fuel system service. Brake fluid should be replaced every 3 to 4 years. Same with power steering fluid.

2 years ago this coming Tuesday I bought my '07 with 270k, it now has 287k.

I self installed a DAP tune @ 281k, the tune breathed new life into the 5.7L The engine and transmission are more in sync with gas pedal input after the tune, it's smoother than before - especially smooth leaving it in S 6 on open stretches.

Glad the truck is running well. Just completed the same service on my truck, in my garage....new washers and new gear oil ran me $80 dollars total. Used Supertech gear oil!

I purchased my 2008 crewmax just over a year ago with 239k on the clock-
Had it shipped here from Texas (10 year old Ohio trucks are rust buckets) 1 owner with 60 carfax service entries and 90% were for preventative maintenance.
I have since put 55k on it (current odo is just over 294k)
    Things ive had to do"
replaced the radiator (seeping at the tank)
    Front pads/rotors
    Rear pads
    2 sets of tires

Things i did as pm or for aesthetics
    Billy 5100's, eibach lift springs
    12 transmission drain/fills
Both diffs and xfer case drain and fill
    Coolant flush
    2x air filter
    Cabin filter
    Oil changes every 5k
So far ive put over 55k on it- at least half of it was pulling a 10k trailer.
I have no problems at all buying a high mile Toyota as long as it's one owner and was up to date on its service schedule

Well, I traded in my 2015 Tacoma Off Road with 53000 miles for a 2015 Tundra Pro with 101000.
The only thing I really miss about the Tacoma, is the fuel millage.

Bought my 2104 with 172k it's got 175k on it now, water pump was weeping so I replaced it, also replaced tensioner and belt while I was at it. Serviced the transmission, and getting fluids together to service front/rear diff and transfer case. Previous owner had zero problems from the truck

    CPO trucks are great!
I purchased my 2002 in 2003 when it was a CPO Toyota with 17,000 - it now has 166,000 or so reliable miles.
