Yep. I have a Pelican Elite on wheels that I mainly use for beer/drinks, then a smaller Canyon for the food. It works out perfect for our family of 4. Last coast trip we did 4 nights and I came back with ice in each cooler.

I purchased a Kong cooler (local to WA state) a few years back. Its my #1 cooler. Only complaint is its a heavy booger empty.

I have a Yeti that I won in a raffle. It has been great. Keeps beer cold and meat from spoiling. Not much more I can ask from a cooler.

What size are you using. I am debating yeti and rtic for a nice camping/hunting cooler. Hoping for 5-7 days of ice. Current ones are 1-2 days which is fine, but having to come off the mountain to get more ice constantly gets old if you havent tagged out yet.

Watched a YouTube vid igloo did well actually the best out of mid cost 100-300 dollar range. That is my my budget for coolers. Most of the time I will be using them for fishing

I have a 45. It works great for me but I am not trying to pack out an Elk. Depending on what you hunt you may want to go bigger. I can get you exact measurements later if you'd like. The Rtic coolers are nice and about the same quality/size from what I have seen.

I only hunt for elk if I get a specialty tag. Spike only gmu's here, so hunting is hard unless have branch bull or cow tag. Mainly be used for food and beverage. Maybe a deer, but usually I have it field dressed and off to butcher same day. Slowly getting tools needed to process myself. Just need grinder and vaccum sealer now.

Nice! I would love to shoot an elk someday they are delicious. I mostly bird hunt with the occasional whitetail during rifle season. I have been wanting to get into archery hunting so I can take advantage of the early season and get my big game hunting out of the way before bird season starts. It's hard for me to leave the dogs at home when I go out. If you are just using the cooler for food and drink I think the 45 is a great size. Plenty of room for a week. Depending on how much you drink

Since we're on the topic of coolers, we have an RTIC 45 that we always just keep on the pontoon boat, and for the wife and I it's just fine, but add a couple more people and they'll have to bring their own cooler. We have a cabin at the boat dock, and spend summer weekends there, and generally haul three sometimes four coolers, one stays on the deck, one gets transfered into the RTIC, and the other two sit under the table in the cabin. I've been thinking about getting a larger RTIC for the cabin (like a 110), but dread the thought of lifting it into the back of the truck, and moving it from the truck to the cabin upon arrival.

Archery is a blast. But so is muzzleloader, both before bird season. I like archery better, mainly because it has better late hunts as well.

Take the dogs with you! They'd have to stay at camp obviously, but that's better than leaving at home. And I am sure yours are trained enough to stay, I've seen your post working with them. Cant wait to get my lab out there again! She was turning into a nice retriever prior to my truck being t boned this last November.

I keep talking about it I just need to get a bow and do it. I have an open invitation to my buddy's elk camp every year and have yet to take him up on it.

Did your pup get hurt in the accident?

No, I was heading to work and thankfully it was just me in the truck.

Definitely should do it! I like shooting my bow just as much as my guns. Hunting with a bow is a blast. Even when you dont harvest anything, I feel closer to the animals and just observing is gratifying. Best hunts I have been on are now with my bow. Harvested more with my rifle, but that's not what it's all about for me anymore.

Costco currently has the cascade mountain tech brand rotomolded coolers for $199.99. Can't remember the size. Wanted to get it but the empty weight is about 50lbs if i remember correctly. RTIC has soft coolers at 50% off and hard sided ones at 30% off. I want the 65 and am waiting to see if there is another sale that is more than 30% off.

This is exactly why I went with the Pelican 80qt Elite and then a Canyon 55.
Family of 4 I bring both (1 drinks, 1 food), 1 long weekend hunting trip solo I bring the Pelican 80 or a short trip the Canyon55. Pelican is true to size, don’t think Yeti is.
I think anything over an 80qt size is going to be a 2-man lifting job into the back of a lifted rig.

I previously had 2 x Pelican 65’s and sold them for my new setup. I found one was too big for food and the other too small for all the beverages.
Prior to that I had a gigantic Coleman. When we’d boat to the island and camp - my day drinking would damn near come to a halt having to sober up and boat back in to get ice. After a few days of that I went Pelican. Not worth it.
Life is now good after 10 years of figuring out cooler setups

Then there’s the soft side coolers LOL
My wife was just bitching at me today to put them back away lol
    :D

Watched you tube vids on them while at Wally World. I was leaning towards igloo on Amazon seamed like a good deal plus I am not waiting on delivery. You tube vid says it saved ice as advertised.

Figured if I went with a 100 qt. and up once filled it would be a bitch to get out of truck once we got out of the truck. Plus I don’t have a deep sea charter service.

I do like that they say these coolers are bear proof for an hour. Like after an hour they are like dam should have thought of that before, can't believe it took me an hour.

Good call on 2 sizes vs 1 big one!
Waaaay easier to move around, way easier to organize drinks vs food etc.

I just watched a quick review by “coolers on sale” YouTube. He does solid reviews.
I think for your budget and what you are looking to get out of it - you made the perfect choice!

Hey what’s going on everyone. I haven’t been on in a couple days.. been crazy busy. Anyway to catch up 65 posts in 1: I too used to do work for Vigor & Oregon Iron works. They have some pretty cool stuff going on there. I just got an Rtic soft 45 on Memorial Day during the sale. Not more then 3 days after I got it the price went down from 30% off to 60% off. I’m waiting to get a bigger hard cooler till I need one. Till then the regular igloo will have to work. I also won an IG giveaway for a new Air Bike over Memorial Day and just picked that thing up on Monday. It’s going to be a loved/hated addition to our home gym for sure. Used it yesterday for the first time and it sucked!!
Anyway hope everyone is having a good week.

Hit 101 yesterday. Up to 102 right now on my back porch.
My folks got a Lifetime cooler when the fridge in their Airstream died in Nevada only 1 day into its first trip. They were happy with the cooler. Personally, I plan to get a CSI fridge next month.

Yep, it’s a hot one today, for sure. 100 right now here. Making it a little difficult to get stuff done that I wanted to work on. Did manage to get the small Conex wired up with a couple receptacles and a light, plus got the 6g wires run for the backup generator.
