Hey everybody, I'm the new owner of a 2016 Inferno Double Cab Tundra. I got it with a 3/1" lift installed, fender flares, 17" TRD wheels, TRD sway bar, tonneau cover etc.

So far I love the truck. I am considering purchasing an extended warranty from Toyota, and I wanted to see what people's opinions were on getting an extended warranty. I'm considering the "Gold" plan for 5 years/120,000 km (~75,000 mi), for $1,899 CAD, or the "platinum" plan for 5 years/120,000 km for $2,466 CAD.

The platinum plan covers more items, but the gold plan still looks fairly comprehensive. The gold plan includes free maintenance for 2 years, and the platinum includes free maintenance for 3 years.

Opinions? Does anyone regret getting an extended warranty, or does anyone regret not getting one? Thanks in advance!

Welcome! I just purchased a 100k extended warranty that includes the S/C. IIRC, I paid $1500 USA.

Necessary? Not necessarily, but it's a peace of mind should something go wrong where it'll be costly.

Every time I get an extended warranty, I never need it. When I don't get one, that's when it breaks. Can't win. I didn't get one for my truck... so I'm screwed.

Makes me chuckle when people PURCHASE an extended warranty and talk about the FREE maintenance haha

Did not purchase an extended warranty. They wanted additional 8 dollars a month for 5 years. Can't remember if that was just a power train warranty to 100k or bumper to bumper to 100k. Oh well. Maybe they'll send me an email and try getting more of my money again.

I got an 8 year, 80k mile, zero deductible, platinum warranty for $1400. it was like an extra $5 a month.

the price you were quoted is high.

You know you can negotiate the price of the warranty, right? I got the 100,000 mile 7 year warranty for around $750. You can also purchase the same warranty online from various dealers at a cheaper price. Someone on this forum should be able to tell you from who.

You may not need it but it is peace of mind because it is all inclusive.

I figured I bought a Toyota because of the reputation that they have for reliability. I have been driving for 18 years now, have owned three cars and still have not paid as much in repairs as what the extended warranty was going to cost me. I had a 4runner that was 15 years old and a Tacoma I kept for 11 years. Tacoma never made it to the shop. The 4runner was never in the shop until after the warranty would've expired. They try to scare you with the cost of all the repairs, I really want to ask them so you're telling me your product is crap and I shouldn't buy it if you are pushing the warranty so hard.

I purchased an extended warranty, 5 years or 120,000 whatever comes 1st. Just finishing my 1st year with 27,000 on the odometer, so I'll get about 4+ years at the rate I'm going. Prices you were quoted seem quite high. I'll check when I get home tonight but I paid around $1300. Not sure which plan it is so I'll check on that also. This was just 1 year ago for a 2016 SR5.

The decision is up to you but I personally would rather have peace of mind that I will not be out thousands on the off chance that I need a tranny or motor or axle or something.

Thanks for the opinions. I still have some time to decide, so I'll give it some more thought. I'm leaning towards putting the $2k in an interest earning account that I can use for repairs after the warranty expires if needed...

Your line of thinking is spot on with older Toyota vehicles. Today.....not so much. I would look into AIP failure cost (that is all over the place on cost), front differential replacement (mine was 2400.00 @75K), transmission is over 4K, and engines with 100K are going for 4000+.

Toyota offered me another 100K mile warranty when my truck hit that mileage. (up to 200K miles) for 2700.00. Not bad if you ask me.

Looked up my plan last night. Platinum plan, 5 years or 125,000 miles. Paid $1395.00.

Thanks for checking. I would expect it to be more expensive here in Canada because of both the exchange rate and the fact that everything just costs more here, but I wouldn't expect it to be THAT much more expensive. If I decide to go with the extended warranty I will definitely shop around and negotiate the price.

For that price, it would've been worth it. Originally when I bought my truck, I thought the finance guy said the extended warranty was going to add $14 a month to my payment for I think 7 years 120,000 miles. I thought it was a good deal so I said yeah, later I started looking at the paperwork and the price was 3,800 that wasn't worth it.
