So I have an annoying squeak coming from the rear that has been getting worse. Only have 27k miles on the truck. Any ideas what it could be or how to troubleshoot? It isnt constant. Goes away at higher speeds and seems to happen mostly when the road is uneven or over small bumps. Also happens in reverse. Dont think its the leafs because I had a coworker jump up and down on the tailgate and didnt hear it. Ideas?

Check your u-joints on the drive shaft. Had that happen on a chevy. Sounds like same situation low speeds and reverse. Although it shouldn't be happening with that low of miles.

That was one of my first thoughts since I had to replace all of them on my 06 Tundra, but that was after like 100k miles. Also seemed like the squeak was more constant when it was the Ujoints and it did it even on flat surfaces. Should I just have Toyota look at it next time I go in for service or is it something I should address asap?

i had this happen on my chevy when i replaced the shocks. try all four corners. sometimes its hard to reproduce and pushing on the opposite corner of a bad bushing can cause it to squeak...at least on an old truck it did lol

May just do that Ron. My initial worry was that I'd get it there and not be able to reproduce it, but now that its more consistent and a bit louder I shouldn't have any problem making it squeak. Wondering if I can get by waiting til my next oil change coming up in 2500 miles or so or if I should go ahead and take it in next week sometime.

Stop eating Mexican. Should stop the squeak and prevent any fallouts.

Hey Mike, just reviewed your build. Have you installed the Pro Skid Plate?
It can make an annoying snap or pop as the truck rolls over uneven (side to side) surfaces - forward or reverse.
It's actually near the center of the truck, but hard to locate due to what the sound might reflect off of.
If it can pop (mine did) maybe it can squeak, too.
There's a fix I can link you to, if interested.
But if you haven't got the Pro Plate, never mind. The steel one doesn't do it.

I had a really annoying high pitch squeak from time to time. Ended up tracking it down to something on the spare tire carrier. Some WD40 and squeak be gone. Just crawl underneath and try to wiggle your spare around.
    Worth a shot!

Probably a long shot...but double check all your bolts that mount your bed to the frame. (Like I said....a long shot)

Same thing here. 2016 Tundra Pro with 18k miles. Toyota service already lubricated the bushings and that didn't work. I am bringing it in this week for them to take another look. I can duplicate the squeak by closing either rear door, though the sound is coming from somewhere in the bed. I also noticed that when it rains or there is moisture in the air you don't hear it.

Was it the seat itself, or a frequent occupant? Clever solution, either way!

    Thank you Ron.

Proper spelling, grammar and punctuation are critical components of the stellar technical accuracy common and expected here on tundras.com, especially when addressing challenging issues such as annoying, intermittent rear-end noises.

Run-on sentences should be avoided, as well. ;)

i'm 99% positive my stock skid plate is doing this. every morning i reverse downhill and to the right out of my driveway. as i drive forward, POP! started after my 15k oil change. i took the plate off then retorqued all the bolts. now instead of a POP! its more like a pop. still annoying. What's the fix you're talking about? Would it apply to the stock plate?

    @RussellVaughan
Hey Russell, sorry for the delayed response.
Did you drive the truck with the skid plate removed? Any popping, then?
My truck's a Limited, so I had the steel plate for about 18 months - no issues at all.
Having more money than good sense, I bought a Pro plate - no issues for the first few months, then a pop during slow rolls over uneven surfaces (side to side) started.
I thought for sure it was from the suspension - recently installed TRD Pro - but thankfully, it wasn't.
Eventually found this Thread on TundraTalk. The fix is in Post 53. My response after I did the fix is Post 54.

    http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tu...-issues/475906-popping-sound-front-end-4.html.

Hope you find and stop the pop!

Thanks! I plan to remove the plate this weekend so I can be absolutely positive. If it's the plate, which I'm guessing it is..then I think the rubber fix should work for me too.

If it isn't your skid, you may want to check your bed bolts. Mine was making a loud pop every time I pulled into or out of my driveway until I realized that the line-x guy didn't tighten them down almost at all. I tightened them down and no more popping. It's a T55 bit for future reference.

Been raining a lot lately so haven't had time to stop by the dealership at all. Gonna get under the truck this weekend with some WD-40 and go to town and see if I can make it go away. Hoping I can track it down like this that way I know if anything needs to be replaced.

Appreciate all the suggestions and opinions! Even the one about not eating mexican lol.

For sure it was Ron. The Pro plate, being a long flat aluminum sheet, probably does a fine job of amplifying sound.

Russell, maybe some rubber washers would work well with the steel plate, rather than the sheets. From what I remember, the steel one doesn't have as much surface area in contact with the truck frame as the Pro plate does.

Excellent suggestion Kevin! I checked mine post-linex, as well. Fortunately, they were tight. "Trust but verify"

    Hope you find it Mike!

Stock for now but love the truck
I also have a 2014 Sr5 about to roll 90,000 miles and am having some “squeaking” issues which sounds like from the left rear. At first I thought it was my brakes so I pulled all the tires and brakes are good all around. It use to just make noises when I would hit the brakes. But now it does when driving at any speed the only time it will stop is as soon as I hit the brakes it stops and will just make normal brake noise. I have also checked the spare tire and seems good to me. I’m just lost because it would only do it before when hitting the brakes but now it only stops when I hit the brakes. This is also my first tundra so any pointers/help would be greatly appreciated. An after searching around it seems like this left rear squeaking noise happens to a lot of people.
