Burgers are like steaks to me...prefer to cook them myself and do it right.

If you have time and the ingredients this is my favorite recipe:

2lbs ground venison meat with pork fat added (or hamburger meat if you don't have deer)
8 strips of cooked bacon chopped up into small pieces
    3 teaspoons worstershire sauce
one egg (really only necessary for deer meat as it isn't as fatty and the egg helps it stick together on the grill)
one pack of dry onion soup mix (don't ask why just do it)
diced cheddar cheese squares (or whatever your favorite cheese is)
    diced jalapenos

Mix all together and form into your patties and then let them sit in the fridge for 30 mins.

Throw em on grill and sprinkle some Emeril's Bam Burger on top.

Your welcome. (There are no good burger joints where I live)

Whataburger is pretty good for a chain. Wish we had them in New Orleans.

The list of places that either used to have a great burger or just don't exist anymore is really long. I'm sorry to say that in a town full of great food, I have not had a really good burger lately. I'm sure there is one out there, I just have not found it.

Lived in New Orleans most of my life. Stumbled in and out of Port of Call many times. In my opinion, not the place they once were. Like many of those places, more of a tourist joint and fewer locals.

I see a few people mention Five Guys. I have not tried them, I need to.

Yeah. I do have to say they're not as good as they were ten years ago. Definitely more tourists than ever. I still go there everytime I'm in New Orleans.

Five guys are pretty good also. Not sure where you're located now but they have one on Corporate Blvd in Baton Rouge.

Oh that reminds me, BurgerSmith is amazing! One off Seigen and another off Perkins and Acadian.

Gordon Ramsey Burgers in Vegas is realllly good. Around my house I like 5 Guys and Habit Burger. Before I got married, I ate 2-3 burgers a day for 10 straight years. :p What other food has all the food groups in one- Meat, vegetable, milk/cheese, and bread groups...

I always wonder why people like fiveguys. I dont like them at all. The buns, patties and fries have a plasticy generic taste to them. I never feel good after i eat there and thats the only place that does me like that. Aparantly its just me but my wife wont go there either. I like Wendys over Fiveguys.

Tom Wahl's in Avon/Rochester (great rootbeer too!)

Killer Burger and Little Big Burger in the Portlandia area (I would say Burgerville too, but too expensive....the Walla Walla onion rings, seasonal Waffle Fries, and shakes are worth it tho), also the Cruise In Diner down in Farmington.

Shake Shack in NYC or Hopdoddy in Austin.

If I'm on the road and don't know where to go.....Five Guys.

Joonbug, You're in the Bay Area ... Next time you're in the City or Marin County checkout Super Dupers. Puts Five Guys and the Habit to shame (and I like those guys).
